Arginine is an amino acid that is involved in the construction of proteins. In nutritional science, arginine is now considered semi-essential. In 1998, a scientist was awarded the Nobel Prize for research into the connection between arginine and nitric oxide (NO), as NO has a significant influence on blood pressure. L-citrulline also has many health benefits.

Why is this important?
The pH value measures the acidity of a solution and ranges from 0 (strongest acid) to 14 (strongest base), with 7 being neutral (e.g. water). Basic substances, also called bases or alkalis, are often formed from plant-based foods, which have an alkaline effect during metabolism, while animal-based foods are acid-forming.
